Health Care Reform Happening Now!
"Oral health and general health are inextricably connected. Any reform of the health care system must include oral health."
According to the Children's Dental Health Project, who has been working closely with US Senators and Senate Committees, constituents are not weighing in on this message.
MDAC members may want to contact congressional decision makers to let them know that oral health does matter, and should be fully represented in the legislative proposal being considered today.
The Senate HELP Committee has started marking up their health reform bill this week. There are about 380 amendments that are being offered mostly from the Republicans. The most concerning are the numerous amendments being put forward by Senators Hatch (R-UT) and Enzi (R-WY) that would weaken the oral health provisions in the bill.
Senators Hatch and Enzi's offices need to hear that:
1. Oral health is critical to overall health and the HELP bill provides modest investments for the health of Americans!
2. A strong oral health infrastructure is critical for implementing cost effective prevention strategies to combat dental disease - which the HELP bill provides!
3. DO NOT alter the oral health provisions from the HELP Health Care Reform bill!
Regardless of who your Senators are it would be most helpful to have you call Senator Enzi (202.224.3424) and Senator Hatch (staff - Patty DeLoatch at 202.224.5251) with the above messages. Then deliver this same message to our Senators!
